Odisha`s campaign in the All-India Buchi Babu Invitational Cricket Tournament ended on a disastrous note as they lost to TNCA President`s XI by 233 runs in their two-day quarterfinal match at Guru Nanak College ground in Chennai today.
In reply to the home team`s strong total of 338, Odisha were bundled out for 105. In the absence of regular captain Biplab Samantray and middle-order batsman Aravind Singh, a depleted Odisha batting line-up suffered a top-order collapse as six wickets tumbled with only 16 runs on the board.
Odisha could cross the 100-run mark thanks to useful contributions by Ranjit Singh, Tukuna Sahoo and Suryakanta Pradhan. Pace bowler Sunil Sam, who destroyed Odisha`s top-order batting line-up, returned with an impressive haul of five wickets for 50 runs.
Earlier electing to bat, TNCA President`s XI rode on a half-century each by Shri Vasudevadas (81), Abhinav Mukund (55) and U Sushil (54) to compile a sizeable total. Left-arm spinner Dhiraj Singh was most successful Odisha bowler, bagging four wickets for 94 runs.
Makeshift wicket-keeper Abhilash Mallick put up impressive performance by taking four catches and effecting one stumping.
